Exploring the history of play at the V&A Museum

On Friday 19th September 2025, students from Erkenwald campus enjoyed an inspiring trip to the V&A Museum in London. The visit focused on the history of children’s toys, giving pupils the chance to explore how play has evolved over time and what it reveals about society.

The trip linked closely with curriculum learning, encouraging students to think critically about history and culture while also developing their social and learning skills. By engaging with the exhibits and discussing their discoveries with classmates, students gained a deeper understanding of how toys reflect creativity, technology, and social change.

One student, Amir (Year 7), said: ‘I really enjoyed seeing how toys have changed over the years - it made me think about how we play today compared to the past!’

Another student, Leila (Year 8), commented: ‘It was interesting to learn about toys from different times and places. Talking about them with my friends made it even better.’

The visit also supported the school’s commitment to the Gatsby Benchmarks, particularly by helping students develop their social and learning skills.
