Curriculum

Business

Intent

In the Business curriculum we encourage pupils to:

  • Know and understand business concepts, terminology, business objectives and the integrated nature of business
  • Apply knowledge and understanding to business issues and to different types and sizes of businesses in local, national and global contexts.
  • Develop as enterprising individuals with the ability to think commercially and creatively to demonstrate business acumen.
  • Develop as effective and independent students, and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds.

Implementation

The course is taught over two years with four 55 minute lessons each week.  Lessons use a range of differentiated resources and assessments.

The course being followed is Edexcel GCSE Business (9-1)

Students will be examined at the end of Year 11 with two externally set exams each of 1 hour and 45 minutes in length

Students exam skills will be built up over the course of the two years by using past exam questions.

The core of the course is to enable students to apply their business knowledge to case scenarios to advise and resolve business issues.

Impact

We expect all students to make good progress each half-term as this builds their confidence and happiness in school.

Students will  be regularly assessed through a variety of measures e.g. peer, self and teacher assessments. There will also be one major assessment each half-term that is ‘deep marked’ against GCSE Assessment Objectives (AOs).

Students will have the opportunity to build their confidence through teacher feedback and all Year 11 pupils will be provided with a revision guide and workbook in order to assist them with home revision study.
